Aping the Impressionists

Aping the impressionists

I am totally in love with the Impressionists. Pissarro, Monet, Van Gogh, Manet etc, etc, etc, I totally can’t get enough of them.

I love how their work shimmers with light. The scenes depicted may be simple and reflect daily life, but there is always something very compelling about the pictures. They simply draw me to look at them over and over again, and it makes my heart tingle. I really hope I will get the opportunity to see the pictures in real life one day.

Karawatha Forest is a local forest reserve located in the southern outskirts of Brisbane. I was totally amazed to find this wonderful gem so close to my home and have brought my children there to play many a time. It is full of bush nature trails, and there is a lovely little play area made out of natural materials. There is even a discovery centre.

When my foot is better (klutzy me has broken it), I will endeavour to discover some of the wetland trails. I want to paint more of it.

I’ve made one humble attempt. The above is my first go at capturing some of the lovely pink gums along one of the simpler and shorter bush trails.

A lovely little place to spend time alone with myself, my thoughts, my camera, my sketchbook and my pen.
